According to a WHO report, India has among the highest suicide rates in the world. The number of suicides per one lakh people, is much higher than even the US and UK. The more developed, southern Indian states have a higher rate. The non-farming population also has more suicides than the farming population. Kerala tops the charts in farmer suicide rate.
