With about 600 million people defecating in open, India has the largest number of public defecators, UN experts said on Thursday. "The Indian government did provide tremendous amounts for sanitation for the poorest, but data showed that those billions of dollars did not reach them," experts added. Overall, around 1 billion people worldwide still practise "open defecation".
