Around 94,000 government schools closed across India over the past decade, averaging nearly 25 closures daily, according to a NITI Aayog report. Their number fell from 11.07 lakh in 2014-15 to 10.13 lakh in 2024-25, while enrolment declined by 2.26 crore. Meanwhile, the number of private schools increased from 2.88 lakh to 3.39 lakh during the period.
