IMD has put the probability of a deficient 2026 monsoon at 60% as El Nino develops in the Pacific Ocean. The forecast, which has already worsened since April, could make 2026 India's driest monsoon since 2015. IMD has confirmed that this year's southwest monsoon is expected to reach only 90% of what scientists consider normal.
