Armed conflict between India and Pakistan could flare up again in 2026, according to an assessment by US-based think tank Council on Foreign Relations. The report flagged Pakistan’s continued role in fuelling regional instability and warned of a “moderate likelihood” of renewed hostilities driven by heightened terrorist activity. India had bombed terror hideouts and Pakistani airbases in May 2025.
