India's first privately funded mathematics research institute, the Lodha Mathematical Sciences Institute (LMSI), was inaugurated in Mumbai on Sunday. The launch was attended by world-renowned mathematicians, including Dr Manjul Bhargava, the first Indian-origin recipient of the Fields Medal, the highest honour in mathematics. Dr Bhargava is set to conduct the institute’s inaugural course.
