India's fintech sector 3rd-highest globally with 30 unicorns: RBI Governor

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said India's fintech ecosystem is the third-highest in the world with 30 fintech unicorns, while speaking at the Global FinTech Fest 2026 in Mumbai. A unicorn refers to a startup that is valued at $1 billion or more. He added that fintechs should treat people's data as a "responsibility" and not just business assets.
