The Indian national waterways (NW) handled nearly 133MT cargo in FY24. Since the past 10 years, cargo traffic on NW has witnessed a growth from 18MT a decade ago to 133 MT in FY24 at a CAGR of 22%. There has been a 767% increase in number of operational national waterways and 635% increase in volume of cargo handled on NWs.
