India’s rarest wild cat makes a comeback in the Thar desert

Once feared to be nearing extinction in India, the caracal has shown signs of recovery with the discovery of a breeding population in Rajasthan’s Thar desert. The finding offers renewed hope for conserving one of India’s rarest wild cats. Scientists are now monitoring the species and restoring habitats under the country’s first dedicated caracal conservation programme.
