India imported a substantial 1.86 million tonnes of urea and 2.26 million tonnes of phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers from China during the 2023-24 fiscal year, according to Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers Anupriya Patel. The government actively imports urea to address domestic supply shortages, but private companies procure P&K fertilizers commercially.
