India-origin pharmaceutical patent families have grown more than fourfold in the past decade, reaching 2,995 in 2024, according to a BCG-HealthKois report. The country now has 1,095 drug-discovery programmes across 195 companies, reflecting a shift from generics to innovation supported by stronger research funding, regulatory reforms and rising biotechnology investments.
