External Affairs Ministry has announced that the government has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, which it had signed with the Pakistan government in 1960. The treaty gives control over the waters of 'Eastern Rivers' Beas, Ravi and Sutlej to India and of 'Western Rivers' Indus, Chenab and Jhelum to Pakistan. Pakistan is downstream along all the rivers.
