India tightens tax treaty with Sri Lanka to curb evasion

India has amended its tax treaty with Sri Lanka to tighten rules against tax evasion and prevent misuse of the double taxation avoidance agreement. The revised protocol aims to curb treaty shopping and reduce revenue leakage. The changes took effect on June 19, 2026, and will apply in India to income earned from April 1, 2027.
