During his speech on 73rd Independence Day, PM Narendra Modi announced that India will have a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), who will head all three forces- Army, Air Force and Navy. The decision has been made to "further sharpen coordination between the forces", said PM Modi. "This is going to make the forces even more effective," he added.
