India and Indonesia have signed an agreement to develop Indonesia-specific Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Indonesia on Tuesday. The support in the development of EVMs will help transition Indonesia from a single-day paper ballot system to digital voting for its 2029 elections. Notably, India has been using EVMs since the early 1980s.
