South African doctor Angelique Coetzee, who first spotted COVID-19 variant Omicron, told PTI that "India will see a surge in Omicron-driven cases" and there'll be a high positivity rate. "Hopefully the majority of the cases will be as mild as what we're seeing...in South Africa," she added. Dr Coetzee further said that vaccines would greatly help to reduce the spread.
