An Indian-origin couple has been convicted for defrauding New Zealand's Ministry of Children, Oranga Tamariki, of NZ$2 million (₹10 crore). The woman, who was government employee, used her job to approve fake or inflated payments to her husband's construction company. In 2023, the couple fled to India on one-way business class tickets and siphoned money into overseas bank accounts.
