Indian-origin ex-director hires friend as ghost employee, takes 50% salary in ₹11-cr fraud case

Karan Gupta, the Indian-origin former director of Optum, has been convicted on multiple counts for stealing $1.2 million (₹11-crore) from the US-based healthcare company, the FBI said. The 47-year-old hired a 'ghost employee', who was his friend, in 2015, it added. The accused took over 50% of the friend's $100,000 (₹91 lakh) salary, which increased with bonuses and raises.
