Indian passport is used to regulate departure of citizens: Govt

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has said that the Indian passport is a document which is used to "regulate the departure from India of citizens of India". Earlier, a government statement clarifying that a passport isn't proof of citizenship had sparked a debate. "Currently, less than 8% of Indian citizens hold a passport," Jaiswal added.
