At 17 years, Chennai-born chess prodigy Dommaraju Gukesh became the youngest-ever player to win the Candidates Tournament in Canada. He also became the youngest-ever Candidates Tournament champion, beating Garry Kasparov's record from 1984. Gukesh is the second Indian player to win the competition, following Viswanathan Anand. His victory ensures his spot in the 2024 World Chess Championship.
