Indian Railways plans to double originating train capacity in 48 major cities in the country by 2030 in view of the rapid growth in demand for travel, according to an official statement issued on Friday. Planned infrastructure upgrades include adding platforms, stabling and pit lines, shunting facilities, and creating new terminals in urban areas.
