Indian researchers make ₹3,000 sensor that turns breath into speech signals

Researchers at IIT Guwahati have developed an underwater vibration sensor which facilitates automated/contactless voice recognition for those who are voice-impaired. Those who can't produce sound still generate airflow from their lungs, and when directed over a water surface, this airflow produces subtle waves and patterns. The ₹3,000 sensor detects these impressions and produces speech signals.
