Indians bought 131.4 tonnes of gold in April-June quarter (Q2) of 2026, down 8.3 tonnes or nearly 6% from 139.7 tonnes bought during the same period last year, according to World Gold Council. However, they ended up spending ₹65,600 crore more as gold prices surged to record highs. Total purchase value jumped nearly 50% from ₹1,32,500 crore to ₹1,98,100 crore.
