NPCI is working on a 'tap and pay' functionality to allow UPI users to make payments of up to ₹2,000 even when there's no internet, Business Standard reported. The new system would use near-field communication (NFC) technology, allowing payments by tapping an NFC-enabled phone on an offline point-of-sale machine. The feature would be useful on flights and underground train networks.
