India's first girls school demolished in Pune, video surfaces

Shortly after midnight, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) demolished the dilapidated Bhide Wada building, where social reformer Jyotiba Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule started India's first girls school in 1848. PMC plans to build a national memorial dedicated to the couple at the site, officials said. Supreme Court earlier rejected pleas of shop owners, who refused to vacate the premises.
