India's first passenger train carried 400 people

India's first passenger train, which travelled from Bori Bunder station in Bombay (now Mumbai) to Thane on April 16, 1853, carried 400 passengers. The train was pulled by three locomotives Sindh, Sultan, and Sahib, and had 14 railway carriages. The journey, which was completed in about 1 hour and 15 minutes, was flagged off with a 21-gun salute.
