'India's power deficit may rise to 5.6% by FY22'

India's power deficit may rise to 5.6% by fiscal 2021-22 from 2.6% of the peak demand in the last fiscal, according to an Assocham-PwC study. The country may require 7% annual growth in electricity supply to sustain an annual GDP growth of 8-9%, it further said, adding, high dependency on thermal power generation poses a serious threat to energy security.
