Instagram hides fake news behind a warning, exempts political ads

Instagram has started flagging content it detects to be fake and hiding the post containing the misinformation behind a "False Information" warning layer. Any data rated as false or partly false by a third-party fact-checker on Facebook will automatically be flagged on Instagram and vice versa. It will pull users from Explore and hashtags if their posts are flagged repeatedly.

Veteran actor Manoj Kumar passes away aged 87

Veteran actor Manoj Kumar has passed away at the age of 87. He breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Known for his patriotic films including Shaheed (1965) and Purab Aur Paschim (1970), the actor received Padma Shri in 1992 for his contributions to Bollywood and was later honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.

Waqf Bill cleared by Parliament

Parliament passed Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, clearing the path for it to be signed into law. It was passed in Rajya Sabha with 128 MPs of Upper House voting in its favour and 95 MPs voting against it. Lok Sabha witnessed heated discussions on the Bill between NDA and the Opposition, after which it was cleared with 288-232 vote.

KKR put up a total of 200/6, driven by Venkatesh Iyer's 60*(29) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi's 50(32). Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakaravarthy took three wickets each as KKR bowled SRH out for 120.

Canada becomes first country to retaliate to Trump's reciprocal tariffs

Canadian PM Mark Carney announced that Canada will impose 25% tariff on all vehicles imported from US that aren't compliant with US-Mexico-Canada trade deal. This makes Canada the first country to retaliate against reciprocal tariffs. US said tariffs announced earlier will be imposed on Canada but the latest reciprocal tariffs, imposed on about 60 countries, won't be effective, Carney noted.

Stock markets in the US recorded a massive crash on Thursday, a day after US President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on dozens of countries. S&P 500 fell 3.4%, putting it on track for its worst day since September 2022. The Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled nearly 1,400 points, or over 2%. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite index fell 800 points.

Gold hits fresh all-time high, silver falls ₹1,000

Gold prices climbed ₹200 to hit a fresh peak of ₹94,350/10 grams in Delhi on Thursday, according to the All India Sarafa Association. The precious metal of 99.9% purity had stayed flat at ₹94,150/10 grams on Wednesday. However, silver prices plunged ₹1,000 to ₹1,00,500/kg from Wednesday's closing level of ₹1,01,500/kg.

Monkeys yodel better than humans: Research

A research published in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B' found that monkeys yodel better than humans. When yodelling, a human might be able to jump an octave, which doubles frequency, while monkeys can manage 3.5 octaves, according to the study. Monkeys have additional pair of membranes that gives them a far wider pitch range, the study found.
