Insulin first used to treat diabetes on this day

Insulin was first used in the treatment of diabetes in a human being on January 11, 1922. Frederick Banting, who discovered insulin medication, administered insulin to 14-year-old Leonard Thompson. While the first injection gave Thompson an allergic reaction, the second one was successful. Notably, Banting was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1923 for the discovery of insulin.
