Ion beams could soon be used to clear hazardous space debris

A European project named ALBATOR is exploring how non-kinetic techniques using ion beams could safely remove space debris without physical contact. The $4.6 million initiative aims to use charged particle beams to nudge debris away from satellites and ISS. This method is different from conventional techniques that involve physically touching the object, like giant nets or docking.
