Iran calls new US sanctions threat ‘classic colonialism’

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the US’ declaration of a new round of economic sanctions is “unlawful economic warfare” and a return to “full-scale classic colonialism.” Iran said such sanctions have no foundation in international law. The statement came after US Treasury chief Scott Bessent said the US would impose the “toughest sanctions in history” on Iran, warning of economic consequences.
