Iran officials said Iran gave notice of its attack on Al-Udeid airbase, US' largest airbase in the Middle East, to Qatar, NYT reported. This was done to minimise casualties. Notably, Qatar's airspace was shut shortly before Iran's attack. Officials said Iran needed to symbolically strike back while ensuring it's done in a way that allowed all sides an exit ramp.
