Iran on Sunday said its pilgrims would not attend the annual hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, as the latter failed to guarantee its pilgrims' safety. Saudi Arabia accused Iran of stopping​ Iranians from performing the religious duty. Saudi Arabia had earlier broken diplomatic ties with Iran after its Tehran embassy was stormed over the hanging of a prominent Shi'ite cleric.
