Ophthalmologist Dr Purendra Bhasin said that tap water and sink surfaces are not sterile and may contain bacteria, fungi and parasites like Acanthamoeba keratitis." He said that when a contact lens comes in contact with these, it can trap germs against your eye, increasing the risk of infection, irritation or inflammation. Even clean-looking water can carry harmful microbes, he added.
