IS makes $1 mn per day from extortion, taxation

As per analysts at RAND Corporation, the Islamic State makes over $1 million everyday through extortion and taxation. The group minimises costs by looting military equipment, appropriating land and paying low salaries. In 2014, the IS collected over $1.2 billion- $600 million from extortion and taxation, $500 million from robbing state-owned Iraq banks and $100 million from oil infrastructure.
