ISRO detects interplanetary dust particles striking Earth every 1,000 seconds
short by Swati Dubey / on Tuesday, 6 January, 2026
ISRO's new dust detector, DEX, has detected interplanetary dust particles (IDPs), striking Earth every thousand seconds. IDPs are microscopic fragments from comets and asteroids that form the Earth's "meteor layer" and appear as shooting stars in the night sky. DEX recorded these impacts between January and February in 2024. As per researchers, these findings are crucial for future space missions.
