Italian scientists to release 80,000 octopuses to tackle blue crab population
Scientists from Italy's University of Bologna are preparing to release 80,000 octopuses in the Adriatic Sea by the end of August to tackle the blue crab population. Crabs are aggressive feeders and have reportedly caused losses of around €200 million to Italy's shellfish industry. Their population is difficult to control as female blue crabs can produce millions of eggs.
