The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force commissioned the submarine Raigei at Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ Kobe shipyard. As the first Taigei-class submarine with a Kawasaki 12V 25/31 diesel engine and lithium-ion batteries, it has a crew of 70, measures 84m in length, and displaces 3,000 tons. It features ZQQ-8 sonar, Type 18 torpedoes, and UGM-842 Harpoon Block II missiles.
