Japan lowers voting age to 18 from 20

In an attempt to encourage its younger voters to become more politically active, Japan on Wednesday lowered the voting age to 18 from 20, adding 2.4 million people to the country's rapidly ageing electorate. The move has been termed as the biggest reform of Japan's election system in 70 years. The revised law will be effective within one year.
