Japan's yen hits fresh 40-year low against US dollar

The Japanese yen weakened past 163 per US dollar for the first time since 1986. The decline came amid a broad US dollar rise after the latest round of attacks in the Middle East pushed oil prices higher and stoked concerns about US inflation. Japan will take decisive action in the currency market if needed, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said.
