Japan scientists develop new plastic that dissolves in saltwater

Japanese scientists at RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science (CEMS) have developed a new biodegradable plastic that is strong and durable but dissolves quickly in saltwater, breaking down into harmless compounds. Made with supramolecular polymers and salt bridges, the plastic remains stable during use but disintegrates in seawater, reducing plastic pollution and impact on wildlife and humans.
