Japanese authorities spent record $62 billion last month to support the yen, country's Finance Ministry's data showed. The first intervention was immediately after the currency hit its 34-year-low of 160.245 against the US dollar on April 29, and the second was on May 2. The interventions didn't have any long-term effects as yen traded at 157.235 per dollar on Friday.
