Japanese supercomputer 'Fugaku', developed by Fujitsu and Riken research institute, has been ranked as the world's fastest supercomputer in an independent bi-annual survey by the TOP500 project. The ARM-based room-sized supercomputer, being used to fight COVID-19, carried out 2.8 times more calculations per second than IBM's 'Summit' in the US. Fugaku's peak performance is over 1,000 petaflops.
