The Supreme Court has said that "justice through bulldozers is unknown to any civilised system of jurisprudence" and added it is "simply unacceptable under the rule of law". The bench was headed by DY Chandrachud, who retired as CJI recently, and it ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to pay ₹25 lakh to a man whose house was demolished in 2019.
