The Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday passed the Right to Education (RTE) Act Amendment Bill. The amendment would make Kannada or the mother tongue the medium of instruction for primary education in the state. Moreover, no new English medium school can be opened after the amendment gets implemented. However, minority schools do not come under this Act.
