Karnataka village continues 200-year-old 101 Oxen Pooja tradition

Allur village in Karnataka’s Chittapur taluk celebrated its traditional 101 Oxen Pooja, a ritual believed to date back around 200 years. Villagers believe the annual ceremony promotes the health of people and cattle. Celebrations included prayers at Mahanteshwara Matha, a procession, traditional music, drum beats, kolata performances and prayers to Goddess Gangamma.
