Kerala Health Department and ICMR have launched a joint field study to trace causes and transmission of amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare but deadly brain infection that claimed 30 lives in the state this year. The research, beginning in Kozhikode, will trace environmental sources, identify water bodies contaminated with pathogenic amoebae, and develop preventive strategies.
