Kerala buys 300 MW from NTPC amid power shortage

Facing acute power shortage due to low rainfall and failed power deals, Kerala is purchasing up to 300 MW from NTPC's Sinnar plant in Maharashtra at ₹5.18/unit. The state has also urged NTPC to build a dedicated plant and deploy battery storage systems, including a 2,000 MWh BESS at Kayamkulam, by March 2027.
