Kerala reported 3,259 confirmed leptospirosis cases and 209 deaths from January 1 till December 5, Union Health Minister J P Nadda told the Lok Sabha on Friday. Endemic to the state, the disease spikes during monsoons and floods. The Union government said surveillance and response rest with states, while providing technical and financial support through national disease control programmes.
