Kerala moves Bill mandating Malayalam in schools, K'taka opposes

Kerala government proposed a bill to make Malayalam the compulsory first language in all schools across the state, including those located in border areas with Karnataka. Opposing the move, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that mandating Malayalam "even in Kannada-medium schools strikes at the heart of linguistic freedom and the lived reality of Kerala's border districts, especially Kasaragod."
